Methods for refining your nose

Solutions, advice Published January 22, 2025

Don't like your nose? The nose is a source of complexes, certainly because it's in the middle of the face. Too wide, humped or too long, there's no such thing as a perfect nose. There are a few make-up tricks you can use to refine your nose, but it's always necessary to undergo nose surgery called rhinoplasty for a definitive correction. Clinique du Lac's specialists in aesthetic medicine and surgery will welcome you for a consultation to examine your nose and suggest a solution for reshaping it.

In search of the perfect nose

Too wide, hunchbacked, crooked, with the tip of the nose drooping - there's no shortage of adjectives to describe the nose. Women and men alike often complain of imperfections that spoil the beauty and harmony of their faces.

Whether the defect is congenital or the result of trauma, the shape of your nose can be modified using a variety of techniques.

A few tips to refine your nose

You can use facial gymnastics to tighten a nose that's a little too wide. For a few minutes a day, massage the entire length of your nose from the center to the sides, using small circular movements. Use make-up techniques such as contouring to create the illusion of a slimmer nose.
Apply light powder along the bridge of the nose (and on the tip) and powder two shades darker than your skin tone on either side of your nose.

Don't overdo your eye make-up, just enlarge your eyes with mascara. Draw attention to your mouth with a brightly colored lipstick. Don't forget to correct dark circles. For the final touch, use a highlighter and draw a fine line across the bridge of your nose.

Medical rhinoplasty to correct nasal defects

To reshape your nose or the tip of your nose, your aesthetic doctor may suggest injections of a resorbable filler such as hyaluronic acid. Injections can reduce bumps, smooth out angles, fill hollows and restore symmetry to your nose, and are performed in different places as needed. Your doctor will study the balance between forehead, nose, lips and chin, and may decide to inject the chin to rectify a nose that is too large, for example.

How is a medical rhinoplasty performed?

Injections are made using a very fine needle or a micro cannula for a gentle, natural correction. A few small hematomas may appear at the injection site, but these fade rapidly and can easily be concealed with foundation.

What are the results, advantages and limitations of medical rhinoplasty?

A first session is generally sufficient to obtain a good result, and the effects of the injections last around 18 months.

Medical rhinoplasty is designed for all those who are reluctant to undergo cosmetic surgery and want to correct a few imperfections in their nose, without requiring hospitalization.

However, this technique cannot correct all imperfections - it is impossible, for example, to reduce over-stuffed nostrils or correct a deviated septum.

Surgical rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure used to modify the size, shape, relief and various imperfections of the nose (drooping nose tip, overly wide nostrils, etc.). The surgeon works on the bone and cartilage, and may use a graft to reshape the nose.

It is possible to refine a nose that is too wide overall, to refine only the tip or to reduce the wings of the nose. As each case is different, your surgeon will examine you carefully to determine which correction to make.

How is a surgical rhinoplasty performed?

The operation is performed under local or general anaesthetic, and may require a short hospital stay. After the operation, convalescence lasts one to two weeks, and the nose remains sensitive for a month. Edema and bruising may appear under the eyes and on the eyelids.

Definitive results can be appreciated between 6 months and a year, while the skin readapts to the new contours of your nose.

What results can I expect from rhinoplasty surgery?

Rhinoplasty is a procedure that corrects the morphology of your nose, restoring harmony to your face, but never transforming it. Don't be jealous of your favorite star's nose - it may be completely unsuited to your face.
