Extrasmile® with carbamide peroxide and LED: The solution for a real radiance boost in Geneva
As we age, and depending on our dietary habits, it's inevitable that our smile ages too: teeth turn yellow, become stained and discolored.
The Extrasmile® treatment allows you to safely eliminate these imperfections and the yellowing of teeth, whether they are linked to the consumption of coffee, tobacco, tea...
The peroxide-based formula is activated by LED cold light. This cosmetic technique brightens teeth in just 20 minutes. For best results from this first session, we recommend two 20-minute treatments.
The more evenly shaded the tooth, the better the result. The gain can be from 4 to 20 shades lighter in a single treatment. Yellow teeth lighten more easily than grey teeth, and are therefore closer to white at the end of treatment. Staining caused by antibiotics (tetracycline) or shock is less likely to respond to the lightening process.
The active ingredients used in Extrasmile's peroxide-based formula are the same as those used by dentists, but at lower dosages, enabling safe correction of stains and yellowing of teeth while preserving teeth and gums, under the guidance of our specialist dental hygienist.
The treatment is safe and painless. In some cases, the treatment may cause temporary sensitivity of the teeth or gums (sensation of warmth, slight tingling).
This sensitivity varies from person to person and is caused by the disinfectant effect of the active ingredient contained in the gel. In all cases, any discomfort is only slight and temporary, and disappears completely within a few hours of treatment.
A few small white spots or sensitivities may appear, but these are only temporary and disappear within 12 to 24 hours. If necessary, a mouthwash or brushing with fluoride toothpaste (or toothpaste for sensitive teeth) can reduce these effects.

Tooth whitening, an aesthetic technique to enhance your smile
A smile is an essential part of communication, and the quality of your teeth influences the aesthetics of your face.
Damaged, yellowed teeth can be a source of complexes and disturb your relationships with others.
Embellishing your smile with teeth whitening can erase the signs of aging and restore your self-confidence.
Tooth enamel is the outer shell whose thickness determines the color of your teeth.
Over time, and depending on your lifestyle, the enamel becomes thinner, and microfissures allow food colorings (tea, coffee, wine, spices...) to impregnate the dentin, leading to yellowing of the teeth.
Aesthetic medicine and surgery already take care of your face with injections and anti-aging treatments, but they can also restore the radiance of your smile with teeth whitening.
Opt for whitening to restore your pearly-white teeth and feel like smiling again.

How does a teeth whitening session work?
A teeth whitening session lasts around twenty minutes.
After thorough cleaning and gum protection, the whitening gel is applied to the patient's tooth surface. The lamp activates the whitening process.
Results are visible immediately; depending on the intensity of your tooth discoloration, repeat sessions may be necessary. Once the treatment is complete, the benefits of whitening last for several years, but it's important to remember that teeth will re-pigment over time.
What are the regulations governing tooth whitening?
Tooth whitening is for adults only, and is not recommended for children and adolescents.
As a precaution, it is not recommended for pregnant women, or for people suffering from cavities, gingivitis, periodontitis or hypersensitive teeth or gums...
The result can also be disappointing for people with ceramic crowns or dental implants, as these will not lighten. However, there is no age limit for treatment. Clinique du Lac specialists take the time to examine your mouth to ensure that there are no contraindications to this aesthetic treatment.
How does a teeth whitening session work?
When it comes to aesthetic treatment of vital teeth, European regulations require that we work with products containing a maximum of 6% hydrogen peroxide, to ensure that the method is completely safe.
In the case of medical devices, concentrations can be much higher, particularly in the case of devitalized teeth. For carbamide peroxide, a maximum of 16% is permitted. Beware of whitening kits available on the Internet: most products do not comply with regulations and can cause irreversible damage to your teeth.
Other solutions for whiter teeth
Internal bleaching can be performed on a devitalized tooth in the dental office: the hydrogen peroxide-based product is deposited inside the tooth.
Your dentist can also offer you dental veneers. These are small ceramic shells applied to the outer surface of your teeth. This technique is recommended if whitening treatments are unsuitable, or if there are slight defects to be rectified in your teeth: gaps between teeth, shape of teeth, alignment...
