Botulinum Toxin (Botox)

Botulinum Toxin - Botox

Botulinum toxin is the treatment used in the prevention and management of facial aging. It relaxes the muscles responsible for the formation of wrinkles but does not fill them.

Its use is simple but requires a good understanding of the anatomy and physiology of facial muscles.

Botulinum toxin is marketed under the names Vistabel® and Botox®.

Your qualified aesthetic doctor will provide you with detailed information about the indications and contraindications of this technique and will determine if it is suitable for your case.

Practical information on botulinum toxin

This is the treatment of wrinkles in the upper face by injection into the muscle, rapidly and without anesthesia.

We really act on the cause of the wrinkle (hyperaction of the muscle responsible for the wrinkle).

For the first time, with an injectable product, we can achieve results comparable to a forehead lift, by replacing the surgical sectioning of a muscle with its chemical denervation.

The aim is not to eliminate all wrinkles, but to brighten up the eyes by opening up the orbicularis muscle and raising the eyebrow.

Botulinum toxin acts on:

  • Reducing fine lines and wrinkles: Botox is often used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, particularly on the forehead, between the eyebrows (frown lines) and around the eyes (crow’s feet). It temporarily relaxes the muscles responsible for these wrinkles, giving the skin a smoother appearance.
  • Muscle relaxation: Botulinum toxin works by blocking the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract. This can be beneficial in treating conditions such as muscle spasms, involuntary muscle contractions, or certain forms of dystonia.
  • Wrinkle prevention: Botox is also used preventively to delay the appearance of wrinkles by preventing excessive contraction of the muscles responsible for expression lines. It is often recommended for younger people who wish to preserve a fresher, younger look to their skin.
  • Controlling excessive sweating: Botulinum toxin can be used to treat hyperhidrosis, which is characterized by excessive sweating. Botox injections in the affected areas temporarily block the nerve signals responsible for the overproduction of sweat.

Botulinum toxin for excessive sweating

Hyperhidrosis, which manifests itself as excessive perspiration, particularly in the armpits, can be safely and easily regulated with botulinum toxin injections.

This effective treatment is particularly suited to the underarm area. Several injections, performed with a fine needle, are required on each side, targeting areas of around 1 square centimetre.

The effects of the treatment generally appear after 48 hours, and build up over the following month. Botulinum toxin effectively reduces sweat production, providing relief from hyperhidrosis.
