Since liposuction exists, fat cells have been used to fill other parts of the body by being reintroduced where they are needed. This reinjection of autologous fat is called lipofilling or lipomodelling.
For a long time, the results of this intervention were unstable concerning the aspect rendered and their durability: the reintroduced fat cells tended to be significantly reduced.
The factors behind these defects were analyzed by plastic surgeons who did not want to stay on this failure. They gradually advanced the techniques, and in 1995 lipomodelling (or lipostructure) began to obtain truly reliable results (S. COLEMAN).
The process consists of the reinjection of the extracted fat cells, thus carrying out a full-fledged autograft.
The majority of hollows, whether natural, caused by trauma or resulting from medical treatment, can be filled by lipomodelling.

It is important to be fully aware that lipofilling remains a real surgical procedure. The choice of a plastic surgeon qualified to practice this operation and accustomed to exercise in a surgical environment is essential.
Pre-operative phase
A scrupulous analysis, in particular on the photographic and medical level, will be carried out to best assess the modifications to be made.
A study should be carried out to compare the current appearance of the face with previous photos.
A consultation with the anesthesiologist is scheduled no later than two days before the operation.
Beforehand, a pre-operative assessment is carried out in order to verify that there are no contraindications to interfere with the operation.
In order to avoid any scarring problem, it is recommended to quit smoking at least one month before the operation.
It is strictly forbidden to take drugs containing aspirin during the ten days preceding the operation.
Anesthesia is hospitalization
Lipomodelling generally requires a so-called “vigilant” anesthesia (local anesthesia accompanied by tranquilizers administered intravenously), or simple local anesthesia, or sometimes even general anesthesia.
The anesthesiologist and the surgeon will discuss with the patient to choose an appropriate anesthesia.
Type of hospitalization:
An outpatient hospitalization is usually required: entry and exit during the same day.
Sometimes it is necessary to stay in the hospital the night after the operation.
